CSPC Pharmaceutical Group (01093.HK) said its Anbenitamab (KN026) combination therapy met the primary endpoint of progression-free survival in a Phase III study for first-line treatment of HER2-positive advanced breast cancer, as assessed by an independent data monitoring committee.
The trial evaluated Anbenitamab, a bispecific antibody co-developed by CSPC's subsidiary Shanghai JMT-BIO Technology Co. and ALPHAMAB-B (09966.HK), in combination with CSPC's self-developed Docetaxel for Injection (Albumin-bound) (HB1801). The IDMC determined the results were both statistically significant and clinically meaningful, with a favorable safety profile, the company said in a statement.
Anbenitamab (KN026) is a bispecific antibody that targets two distinct HER2 epitopes, designed to potentially overcome resistance to existing HER2-directed therapies. The albumin-bound docetaxel formulation (HB1801) aims to improve drug delivery and reduce toxicity compared with standard solvent-based docetaxel. Specific efficacy data, including median PFS and hazard ratios, have not yet been disclosed.
HER2-positive breast cancer accounts for approximately 15 percent to 20 percent of all breast cancer cases, representing a multibillion-dollar global market dominated by Roche's Herceptin (trastuzumab) and newer entrants including AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo's Enhertu (trastuzumab deruxtecan). The positive readout de-risks the KN026 program and positions CSPC to compete in the first-line setting, where treatment options remain concentrated among a handful of branded therapies.
CSPC shares closed 0.8 percent lower at HK$7.20 on Wednesday, while ALPHAMAB-B rose 3.3 percent. The binary event now shifts to regulatory submission timelines. CSPC has not disclosed a planned filing date for marketing approval in China or other jurisdictions. Investors will watch for full data presentation at an upcoming medical conference, which could provide the detailed efficacy and safety numbers needed to assess peak sales potential against established competitors.
